The collection consists chiefly of minutes retained by Walter L. Stockwell, a member of the Executive Committee of the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of North Dakota (minutes from 1922-1933) and of the board of directors of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Association (minutes from 1921-1940). In the minutes is material on circumstances surrounding construction of the "Memorial to Washington the Mason" in Alexandria, Virginia, particularly the Masonic affiliations of subcontractors and the financial problems of the prime contractor, the Cranford Company. Also in the collection are: biographical sketches (1882-1957), of varying quality, of some members of the Hillsboro Lodge No. 10, Hillsboro, North Dakota; a draft copy of the certificate of incorporation of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Association; a memorial booklet and some pamphlets on George Washington as a Mason.
